Historic: Not just Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli goes past Ponting and Sangakkara with 49th ODI ton

Virat Kohli etched his name on the pages of history books once again as he equalled Sachin Tendulkar's record of 49 ODI hundred at the Eden Gardens. The 35 year old celebrated his birthday in his own style as he smashed another World Cup century in this edition. Virat now has four World Cup hundreds in his tally.

Virat Kohli breaks plethora of records

Virat has already broken a plethora of records and by registering another hundred he has also added a few record in his kitty. The Indian batsman now has the second most 50 plus scores in the limited format after the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. He has now accumulated a whopping 119 fifty plus scores in ODI cricket and thus has surpassed former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara who had 119 fifty plus scores. A legend of the game Sangakkara led Sri Lanka in their glory days and is one of the greatest to have played the game.

Virat Kohli is the 3rd highest run getter in World Cups

Kohli also is the 3rd highest run scorer in the history of the World Cup as he has now 1571 runs in 34 innings at a stupendous average of 58.18. Sangakkara had collected 1532 runs while Rohit Sharma is in the fourth position with 1420 runs. Kohli is only behind Sachin and Ricky Ponting in the top run getter list and  He also became the fourth batsman to cross the 1500 runs hurdle in the World Cup. He is also the second Indian batsman after Sachin to record 6000 runs in ODI cricket so far. India will now take on Netherlands in their last round-robin game in Bengaluru.
