India has been the team to beat in the World Cup
India has always been a batting-centric team but in this World Cup bowling has also formed the core of their squad. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammad Shami inflicted major damage on their opponents. Shami wasn't a part of the initial plans but a sudden injury to Hardik Pandya scampered their plans and Shami was drafted in as a third pacer. Since then, the fast bowler has been a revelation as despite missing the first four matches, the 33-year-old has picked up a staggering 16 wickets so far.

Gautam Gambhir names the bowler who would end up having more wickets than Jasprit Bumrah
Former Indian opener and esteemed commentator Gautam Gambhir believes Shami will finish the World Cup with more wickets than Bumrah. In an interaction with Sportskeeda, he said, “I think Shami because people do not take on Jasprit Bumrah. He’s too good a bowler for an opposition to take him on. A lot of times, the best bowler will not have the most number of wickets. The reason is that the opposition thinks let’s see him off. If you observe Bumrah’s initial spell, no one wants to take him on. A lot of times, the team’s best bowler would have a very good economy rate, but he won’t have a lot of wickets.
I feel Shami [will take more wickets], from the point of view that opposition will look to attack him because of Jasprit Bumrah. And he’s bowling one change. I still feel Jasprit Bumrah is the X factor in the team. This Indian team is such a strong team because of him. But Shami will have more wickets.
India will take on the Netherlands in their last round-robin match in Bengaluru on October 12.
