Maxwell found an able partner in captain Pat Cummins, and together they stitched a crucial partnership of 202 runs. Cummins, although scoring only 12 runs off 68 balls with one four, played a vital supporting role.

Ravi Shastri, known for his cricket acumen, was quick to draw parallels between Maxwell's incredible innings and Kapil Dev's iconic performance in the 1983 World Cup. He compared Maxwell's heroics to Kapil Dev's memorable unbeaten 175 against Zimbabwe at the Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells, which ultimately led India to victory in a remarkable turnaround.

“Stunning. Reminds me of Kaps of 83,” Shastri wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

In the end, Australia managed to secure a thrilling three-wicket win, granting them a coveted spot in the World Cup semi-finals.

After the match, an elated Glenn Maxwell expressed his satisfaction with the match-winning innings, acknowledging that he had previously faltered in similar situations. He credited his partnership with Pat Cummins, stating, "To be not out with Patty at the end is something I am really proud of."

With one final league game against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune, Australia are determined to maintain their momentum and continue their quest for World Cup glory.
