Babar Azam's reign coming to an end, Shubman needs only these runs to become World No.1 ODI batter
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is on the verge of losing his number one ODI spot as Indian opener Shubman Gill is threatening to dethrone him from the summit.
Babar Azam's number-one ODI batsman ranking in ICC standings might be at risk. The Pakistan captain's 74 couldn't be of much help as Afghanistan recorded a historic victory in the last World Cup match. Babar is currently leading the ICC Men's ODI ranking for batsmen with 829 points.

Shubman Gill can dethrone Babar Azam as number one ODI batsman
Shubman Gill is in the second spot as the Indian opener is threatening to leapfrog Babar from the summit. Shubman wasn't involved in the first two matches but bridged the gap in the next three as the Men in Blue are swiftly cruising to their target. Shubman has looked in good touch and if he manages to score around 50 runs against England in Lucknow he is expected to dethrone the Pakistan skipper from the top spot. Babar's lead at the top has been cut to only six points currently.

Virat, Rohit remains in the top ten following a grand show
Three ODI centuries in World Cup 2023 has helped Quinton de Kock in cementing his place in the third spot while his colleague Heinrich Klaasen made a lot of grounds and currently occupies the 4th spot. Both Virat Kohli and David Warner share the number five positions and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma finds himself at number eight position.

Notably the top ten is heavily dominated by both the Indian and the Proteas batters, A total of six batsmen representing these two countries are in the top ten and it is likely to remain like that given their ominous form. South Africa blew away a hapless Bangladesh by 149 runs while India remain on top with a four-wicket victory over new Zealand.
