Following the defeat by New Zealand, Sri Lanka receives flak from Michael Vaughan for ending the chances of an IND vs PAK semi final in World Cup 2023.
While England flopped comprehensively in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, there is one Englishman, whose game always remains on top. Former England captain, Michael Vaughan has been a frequent figure on the social media scene and recently after taking multiple jibes at Pakistan's Mohammad Hafeez, he has turned his attention towards Sri Lanka.
3 things you need to know
- New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 5 wickets to close down the India vs Pakistan semi-final route
- Team India remains the only undefeated team left in the tournament after 8 matches

SL vs NZ: Michael Vaughan discontent with Sri Lanka
Michael Vaughan expressed his disappointment with Sri Lanka for exterminating the chances of an India vs Pakistan semi-final. Ahead of the New Zealand vs Sri Lanka match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, some chances were prevailing about an IND vs PAK semi-final. However, for that to come about, Sri Lanka had to beat New Zealand, which did not happen, and Pakistan would have to beat England. To reach the threshold, Pakistan have unrealistic stipulations in front of them.
As every IND vs PAK match always gets the hype and remains ever-anticipated, Michael Vaughan blamed it on Sri Lanka for halting the proceedings. Following the match, Vaughan took to X, to express his discontent with the Sri Lankan team. Here's what he wrote.
"I guess Sri Lanka didn’t want a India v Pakistan semi final !!!!!! CWC2023"
India vs New Zealand Semi-Final 2.0
Unless Pakistan pull off something extraordinary, it will most probably be India vs New Zealand in the semi-final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The teams squared off at the same stage in the 2019 ODI World Cup, and it did not end well for India. However, four years have gone by and this time there will be no threat of overcast conditions, yet the fearsome 45 minutes of bad cricket is what Team India needs to be wary of. As for who will come out as the favourites, the Rohit Sharma-led side has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the tournament, but past the league stage, nothing matters. Both the teams will have to start afresh and vie for the finalist's spot.
