As per Sky News, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) is expected to make an announcement in the coming days once the deal is finalised between the two parties. FSG recently issued a statement confirming an interest. “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”
Amit Bhatia also happens to be the son-in-law of steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and recently acquired a stake in Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers. Should the new agreement go through, it would value the club at around £4.4bn ($6bn), making it one of the wealthiest football clubs in the world.
FSG, who also owns MLB franchise Boston Red Sox, took charge of Liverpool in 2010 for as little as £300 million and in the last 16 years, the investment has become multifold. NBA legend LeBron James also stands to be one of the minority stakeholders for Liverpool.
As per Forbes, Bezos is the 3rd richest man with an estimated wealth of £207 billion ($280 billion) and the consortium could take over more than a 30 per cent stake, as per reports. Under FSG's ownership, Liverpool have gone onto win twpo Premier League titles, one Champions League in 2019 alongside 3 League Cups and 1 FA Cup.
Liverpool have already splashed the cash in the transfer window, bringing the likes of Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet.
