Al Hilal and Portugal midfielder Ruben Neves has disclosed a tattoo of himself and Diogo Jota ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Ruben Neves has disclosed a tattoo of himself and Diogo Jota during an emotional ceremony ahead of Portugal's FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Armenia. Late Liverpool star Jota and his brother Andre Silva were killed in a tragic car accident on 3rd July when they were on their way towards a ferry in northwest Spain.
Ruben Neves Reveals Touching Diogo Jota Tattoo
Jota and Neves spent a lot of time on the football pitch, having been together at club and international level. Both played for Porto and then went on to don the Wolves jersey in the Premier League together. Wolves won the promotion that season and both players were influential to Wolves' plan for the next two seasons. Jota later secured a sensational move to Liverpool and helped the Merseysiders lift the Champions League and Premier League titles.
The tattoo was inked on Neves' left calf, and it shows No. 21 Jota hugging the Al Hilal midfielder. Ironically, Neves was also handed over the vacant 21 jersey by manager Roberto Martinez and Portugal named a 23+1 member squad in order to keep Jota a part of the squad.
Diogo Jota's Wife Presented With Memorabilia
The ceremony was also attended by Jota's wife Rute, and he was presented with a bronze framed shirt of Jota's 21 No Portugal jersey. Cristiano Ronaldo was also among the players to pay his tribute to the late star, and later was also seen consoling the late Liverpool star's father.
Neves paid his tribute to the star with a beautifully handwritten letter. He wrote, "More than friends, we're family. And that won't change just because you've signed a contract a little farther from home. When we join the national team, you'll still be with us - at the dinner table, on the bus, on the plane.
“Always by our side, just like you've always been. We'll keep laughing, making plans and sharing life the way we always have.”
Portugal will face Hungary, Armenia and Ireland in the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
