Former BCCI President IS Bindra Dies At 84
Former BCCI President Inderjit Singh Bindra passed away on Sunday at the age of 84 at his residence in New Delhi.
New Delhi: Former BCCI President Inderjit Singh Bindra passed away on Sunday at the age of 84 at his residence in New Delhi.
International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah condoled Bindra's death. In a post on X, Shah said, “Deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. I S Bindra, former BCCI president and a stalwart of Indian cricket administration. May his legacy inspire future generations. Om Shanti.”
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings also condoled Bindra’s demise. In a post on X, the IPL franchise called Bindra a stalwart of Indian cricket administration, adding, “Our deepest condolences on the passing of former BCCI and PCA President I.S. Bindra.”
Who Was IS Bindra?
Bindra was the President of BCCI from 1993 to 1996. He also headed the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for over three decades. Further, he played a key role in helping India win the hosting rights for the 1987 and 1996 ODI World Cups. Bindra also served as the Principal Advisor to the ICC President during Sharad Pawar’s two-year term. He retired from cricket administration in 2014.
In acknowledgement of his long-standing service, the PCA Stadium in Mohali was renamed as the IS Bindra Stadium in 2015.
