India To Host 2030 Commonwealth Games: Ahmedabad Set To Make History

Ahmedabad: Gujarat's Ahmedabad is all set to make history as the executive board of Commonwealth Sport has recommended it as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games (CWG). Following the decision, India will gear up to host the prestigious multi-sport event for the second time after 2010.
The 2030 Commonwealth Games are expected to be a grand celebration of sports, culture, and unity, showcasing India's capabilities and strengths on a global platform.
The decision to host the 2030 CWG in Ahmedabad is set to boost sports infrastructure, promote tourism, and inspire a new generation of athletes in India. As the countdown begins, the nation is eagerly waiting to welcome the world to Ahmedabad in 2030.
Ahmedabad To Host CWG After Delhi Hosted The Games In 2010
According to the officials, the recommendation, which follows a rigorous evaluation process, is subject to approval by the full Commonwealth Sport membership at the general assembly in Glasgow on November 26, 2025. If successful, Ahmedabad will become the first city in India to host the Commonwealth Games since Delhi in 2010.
The 2030 CWG is set to be a spectacular celebration of sports, culture, and unity, showcasing India's capabilities and strengths on a global platform. The officials asserted that Ahmedabad is an ideal host city for this prestigious event, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and world-class infrastructure.
‘Extraordinary Honour For India’: PT Usha
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), led by President PT Usha, has welcomed the decision, stating that hosting the CWG would be an extraordinary honour for India. "It would be an extraordinary honour for India to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad…..The Games would not only showcase India's world-class sporting and event capabilities but also play a meaningful role in our national journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047," said Dr PT Usha.
Ahmedabad's bid was evaluated based on various criteria, including technical delivery, athlete experience, infrastructure, governance, and alignment with Commonwealth Sport values.
The executive board of Commonwealth Sport was impressed by Ahmedabad's vision and ambition, and its proposal was deemed to be of high quality. "The Board was impressed with the vision and ambition of India's proposal and is recommending Ahmedabad to our membership," said Dr Donald Rukare, Interim President of Commonwealth Sport.
The decision to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad is expected to provide a big boost to Indian sports, promoting athletic excellence and inspiring a new generation of athletes.
Central Govt's Efforts Bore Fruits
The central government has been actively promoting sports development in the country, investing in infrastructure and initiatives to support athletes. Hosting the CWG will further accelerate this momentum, providing opportunities for athletes to compete at the highest level and for India to emerge as a major sporting nation.
The decision to recommend Ahmedabad as the host city is also seen as a strategic partnership between the Commonwealth Sport Movement and India. The partnership will promote the values of the Commonwealth, including friendship, respect, and inclusivity, and will provide opportunities for athletes and officials from across the Commonwealth to come together and celebrate the spirit of sports.
The Commonwealth Sport Movement has also announced plans to develop a strategy to support and accelerate Nigeria's hosting ambitions for future Games, including consideration for 2034.
