The Indian Men's Team has stunned Australia in their final Group B fixture and marched into the Quarterfinals of Paris Olympics by finishing second in standings
Indian Hockey team has done the unthinkable at Paris Olympics as it has beaten gold medal contenders Australia 3-2 in their final Group B game at Paris Olympics. This marks the first time India men's team has beaten Australia at the Olympics since 1972 Olympics in Munich snapping a 52-year losing streak against Kookaburas at Summer Games.
India has now qualified for Paris Olympics Quarterfinals finishing second in their group and will be on a slightly easier side of the draw. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Singh led from the front in India's incredible win as he bagged a brace in the encounter.
An Incredible performance from start to finish
India came out the blocks sensationally well and stunned Australia as Shamsher missed an Open Goal. However, the warning signs were there for Australia and India soon capitalised as they excellently countered an Australian penalty corner and took the lead inside opening minutes via Abhishek.
Before the end of first quarter, India doubled their advantage as they took lead through Harmanpreet Singh who converted from the penalty corner.

In the second quarter, Australia came out with a lot of emphasis and attacking intent and Indian goalie Sreejesh had to make two great saves. The Indian resilience gave way midway in second quarter as Australia pulled a goal back through Thomas Craig as the first half ended 2-1.
In the third quarter, India restored the two goal cushion in the first two minutes of third quarter as Harmanpreet Singh converted his penalty stroke and bagged his brace.
In the fourth quarter, India thought they had put the game to bed when they scored their fourth. However, the goal by Amit Rohidas was disallowed. Australia pulled one goal back through a penalty stroke and made the score 3-2.
