Apple's next-generation HomePod is rumoured to come equipped with a large LCD screen, according to a recent report. While Apple released updated HomePod and HomePod mini models a few months ago, new HomePods were not expected for at least a year.

Additionally, there are reports that the upcoming HomePod might run on a modified version of TVOS, referred to as "homeOS." This could allow the HomePod to run apps and services without the need for a user interface. Native apps like Apple Music and Apple Podcasts are expected to be reprogrammed to be compatible with the new display format.

New functions

Apple is also exploring the addition of various functionalities to the HomePod with this display, including the ability to answer calls, display notifications, adjust the display colour to match music album art, and respond to messages using pre-configured texts and emojis.

As of now, there is no official information on when Apple plans to introduce the new HomePod or if it will indeed materialise. However, this leak suggests that Apple is considering a substantial overhaul of the HomePod to enhance its capabilities as a smart speaker.
