ChatGPT update: OpenAI has started the rollout of new beta features exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus members. Media reports indicate that this update introduces the capability to upload and work with files, as well as multimodal support. Notably, this enhancement eliminates the need for users to manually select modes, such as 'Browse with Bing' from the GPT-4 dropdown, as the system infers user intentions based on context.
These novel features effectively extend a slice of the office functionalities that are characteristic of the ChatGPT Enterprise plan to individual users subscribed to the standalone chatbot service. While the multimodal update does not seem to be reflected in the Plus plan as of now, some users had the opportunity to explore the Advanced Data Analysis feature, which appears to function as anticipated.
Upon feeding a file to ChatGPT, a brief processing period ensues before the chatbot becomes adept at interacting with it. This empowers the chatbot to perform tasks such as data summarization, answering inquiries, or generating data visualizations based on user prompts.
The chatbot's utility is not confined to text files alone. A user on Threads shared images illustrating a conversation in which they uploaded a picture of a capybara and tasked ChatGPT to create a Pixar-style image based on it, leveraging DALL-E 3. Subsequently, they refined the concept by introducing another image, this time depicting a wiggly skateboard and solicited ChatGPT's assistance in integrating it. Curiously, the result incorporated a hat as well, for reasons yet to be elucidated.
