Nvidia is set to launch three new chips in China, Reuters reported quoting local media reports on Thursday, November 9. This development comes weeks after the US imposed restrictions preventing Nvidia from selling two high-end artificial intelligence (AI) chips and a leading gaming chip to Chinese companies.

The new chips, named HGX H20, L20 PCIe, and L2 PCIe, are expected to be announced on or after November 16, as per sources cited by STAR Market Daily news outlet. Nvidia declined to comment on the report.

Last month, Nvidia revealed that the US export restrictions would hinder the sale of its modified advanced AI chips, A800 and H800, designed for the Chinese market. Additionally, the L40S gaming chip, announced in August, would be affected by these restrictions. The curbs, originally scheduled for a later date, were expedited by US regulators, taking immediate effect on October 24.

With over 90 per cent market share in China's $7 billion AI chip market, Nvidia's setbacks present opportunities for domestic companies like Huawei Technologies to gain traction. Baidu, a Chinese internet giant, reportedly placed a substantial order for Huawei AI chips this year, anticipating restrictions on Nvidia purchases.
