Huawei Mate 30 Pro is the best camera phone in the world: DxOMark

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro is now the best camera phone in the world, if the folks at DxOMark are anything to go by. The Mate 30 Pro got an overall score of 121 - with a 131 in still photos and a 100 in videos. That bests the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G, which was previously the best camera phone according to DxOMark findings.
“The Mate 30 Pro delivers excellent results in almost all still image categories, but really shines for texture and noise. Images are well-exposed down to very low light levels and a wide dynamic range ensures good shadow and highlight detail in difficult high-contrast scenes,” according to DxOMark.
Huawei has been pulling off some great photography chops with its high-end flagships for over a year now. The P30 Pro was the best camera phone at launch, and still remains to be one of the best camera phones that money can buy. The Mate 30 Pro basically uses the same main sensor while bringing software optimizations to make it even better – so it seems.
More precisely, the Mate 30 Pro has four cameras in all - a 40MP primary camera with f/1.5 aperture and OIS which uses a custom Sony sensor with a RYYB filter (instead of the more conventional RGB filter), another 40MP ultra-wide sensor with f/1.7 aperture and OIS, an 8MP telephoto sensor with OIS for 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom, and a Time-of-Flight camera for 3D depth mapping purposes. On the front, the Mate 30 Pro has a 32MP camera.
The Mate 30 Pro may have the best smartphone camera around but it’s not going to be easy for Huawei to sell the phone in international markets. This is because even though the Mate 30 Pro is an Android phone (running Android 10 out-of-the-box) it doesn’t come with the Google Play Store and apps like Google Maps and Gmail. Huawei has been effectively barred from using Google's Android in the long-term following a recent US trade clampdown.
