Jensen Huang reveals why he named his company Nvidia
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang while speaking at the Nvidia AI Summit 2024 revealed why he named his company Nvidia when he started the company back in 1993.
Nvidia is hosting the Nvidia AI Summit 2024 in Mumbai. On the sidelines of the summit, CEO Jensen Huang shared why he decided to name his company Nvidia when he started the company back in 1993. Huang revealed that he chose the name Nvidia as it sounded like the name of a mystical place.
“In 1993 we had to come with a name for our company. To tell you a really long story in short, I chose the name Nvidia because it sounded like a mystical place. India..Nvidia,” Huang said on stage at the ongoing Nvidia AI Summit 2024 today.
“So, if the graphics and computer integrated systems business didn't work out for us, we could do anything,” the Nvidia CEO added.
In addition to revealing the story of how Nvidia got its name, Huang also announced a new small language model for Hindi. The SLM for Hindi is Nemotron-4-Mini-Hindi-4B and it has four billion parameters.
"The model was pruned, distilled and trained with a combination of real-world Hindi data, synthetic Hindi data and an equal amount of English data using NVIDIA NeMo, an end-to-end, cloud-native framework and suite of microservices for developing generative AI," Nvidia said today.
Basically, what this model will do is that it will enable developers to create apps and generative AI-based assistants and chatbots that understand and communicate with end users in Hindi.
The company also said that this SLM or Small Language Model is available as a part of NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform, which the company says gives businesses access to enterprise-grade security to streamline AI development for production environments.
