YouTube introduces Watch Page feature to recommend videos available from credible sources
The development follows the government's request to YouTube to identify fake news channels on its platform.
Google-owned YouTube is set to introduce a "Watch Page" for news in India, listing credible news sources, according to Mira Chatt, YouTube India's head of government affairs and public policy. The Watch Page will recommend videos from trustworthy sources and is expected to roll out in the coming months.
"Today, I am thrilled to introduce 'Watch Page' for news... the Watch Page will recommend videos available from credible sources," YouTube India's head of government affairs and public policy, Mira Chatt, said at the Google for India event.
This development follows the government's request to YouTube to identify fake news channels on its platform, even though the government has not provided a clear definition of "fake news" in its communication to YouTube.
Chatt also mentioned that YouTube removed over 2 million videos in India between April and June 2023 that were in violation of its policies. This indicates a commitment to addressing content that doesn't adhere to the platform's guidelines.
