India's first astro tourism initiative, "Nakshatra Sabha," was launched on June 1 at the scenic George Everest Peak in Mussoorie. Known for its breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks and the Doon Valley, George Everest Peak served as the picturesque venue for this pioneering event.
The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, in collaboration with Starscapes, India's leading astro tourism company, hosted the event. The campaign, which concludes today, aims to introduce astronomy enthusiasts to various celestial activities and experiences.
Following this launch, similar astro tourism events are planned across India, including Harsil-Jadung, Benital, Rishikesh, Jageshwar, and Ramnagar.
Participants engaged in a range of activities such as astrophotography workshops, star gazing with specialized instruments, solar observations using solar glasses and H-Alpha filters, and lessons in navigation and timekeeping. The event also featured expert lectures on astro tourism, astrophotography competitions, and live astronomical demonstrations.
This initiative aligns with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's vision to diversify Uttarakhand's tourism offerings beyond traditional religious tourism. By promoting unique experiences like astro tourism, the state aims to attract a wider array of visitors and enhance their travel experiences.
Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj emphasized the government's commitment to providing tourists with enriching and memorable experiences. He highlighted that the Nakshatra Sabha is a significant step towards achieving this goal, ensuring that visitors leave with lasting impressions of Uttarakhand's natural beauty and innovative tourism initiatives.
