CRACKDOWN! Why India's Elite Forces Are Flying Into the Manipur Warzone

The Union Government has recently intensified security measures in Manipur to restore peace amid ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Following security reviews by Home Minister Amit Shah, the Centre approved the strategic deployment of two elite CoBRA battalions of the CRPF for specialized operational duties. These highly trained jungle warfare commandos, drawn from the 207 and 210 battalions, are tasked with conducting specific operations against armed groups responsible for the unrest. The deployment of the CRPF and its CoBRA units marks a significant shift in tackling the complex security challenges in the region. Amit Shah has assured that the presence of central forces will be strengthened and reoriented to plug vulnerabilities in sensitive areas. This focused approach aims to secure borders, disarm militant factions, and foster an environment where meaningful dialogue between the Kuki and Meitei groups can eventually take place.
