How DRDO Is Making Foreign Arms Dealers Nervous

India has successfully conducted the maiden flight trial of DRDO TARA. 
TARA is India’s first indigenous glide weapon system, designed as a domestic alternative to the American JDAM. It converts conventional unguided “dumb bombs” into smart, precision-guided munitions with a standoff range of up to 150-180 km and high accuracy. This significantly enhances the IAF’s strike capability at low cost. Developed by DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, along with other DRDO labs and Indian industry partners, TARA marks a major step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat in precision munitions. Production has already begun with Development cum Production Partners , including Adani Defence.
This breakthrough reduces India’s dependence on imported systems like JDAM and gives the IAF a powerful, scalable, and affordable precision-strike option.
