India’s Massive ₹30,000 Cr Motherland Defense Plan

The India MALE drone program focuses on developing Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance unmanned aerial vehicles to meet the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance requirements of the Indian armed forces. Core projects include the TAPAS-BH-201 and the Archer-NG, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation in collaboration with domestic manufacturing partners like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. These systems are designed to operate at altitudes up to 30,000 feet and maintain flight endurance exceeding 24 hours. The program aims to establish domestic production capabilities, reducing reliance on imported surveillance equipment. The Indian Ministry of Defence has initiated procurement processes to acquire MALE UAVs from local defense contractors, integrating advanced electro-optical sensors and synthetic aperture radar for border monitoring. This initiative represents a structured shift toward localized defense manufacturing, ensuring the military has sustained aerial monitoring capabilities while building a domestic aerospace supply chain for future defense requirements.
