Video: How Ethiopia’s Volcanic Ash Clouds Could Impact India

Several flights were cancelled, and Indian airports and airlines received advisories to prepare for possible disruptions after an ash plume from volcanic activity in Ethiopia on Monday. The ash cloud is currently drifting over northern India.

The Hayli Gubbi volcano erupted on Sunday for the first time in nearly 12,000 years, pushing thick ash through the Red Sea toward Yemen and Oman, and later across the northern Arabian Sea.

The dense sections of the ash cloud are moving over Delhi, Haryana, and nearby Uttar Pradesh. The plumes could affect air quality in Delhi and surrounding regions, although the likelihood remains low as the ash is situated thousands of feet above ground.
