Everest Blizzard: 1000 Trekkers Trapped On Eastern Face, Massive Rescue Underway
A severe blizzard struck the Karma Valley on Mount Everest’s eastern Kangshung face, leaving 1000 trekkers stranded during China’s National Day holiday. Rescue teams have guided 350 people to safety in Qudang and established contact with 200 more. Heavy snowfall and lightning at over 4,900 metres have halted entry to the Everest Scenic Area, as hundreds of rescuers work to clear paths and bring the remaining trekkers down.
