Arnab Decodes How Hindu Consolidation Led To Massive Saffron Sweep In Bengal & Assam | Results 2026

The BJP achieved a "saffron sweep" in the 2026 assembly elections, especially in West Bengal and Assam, thanks to strong welfare support, anti-incumbency sentiment, and Hindu vote consolidation. The BJP broke the supremacy of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal with over 200 seats, while in Assam, the party held onto its stronghold with over 82 out of 126 seats. Gains in greater Kolkata and a "near-clean sweep" in the rural South West served as the foundation for the BJP's victory. Reports of a divided minority vote and a strong counter-polarization caused the TMC's vote base to decline in several areas, with over 20 ministers falling behind.
