Assam is now suffering from a disastrous surge of intense flooding, resulting in an unparalleled path of destruction throughout the state. As numerous districts face significant flooding, the death count has sadly risen to 68, and more than 524,000 individuals continue to be greatly impacted.

The eastern regions of Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat are experiencing the heaviest impact of the floods, confronting their most severe inundation emergency in many years. The abrupt, frightening increase was caused by extraordinarily intense rainfall in the nearby hill state of Nagaland. The heavy rainfall led to large tributaries of the Brahmaputra quickly surpassing their danger levels and entirely inundating numerous villages within just a few hours.

Rescue and relief efforts are presently functioning at a wartime pace. The NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, and local authorities are diligently evacuating thousands of trapped residents to more than 350 active relief camps. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has promised priority rehabilitation, yet thick layers of sediment and completely damaged roads still obstruct access to the most affected areas.

Assam confronts a significant challenge to reconstruct, with more than 48,000 hectares of essential farmland submerged and key infrastructure entirely destroyed. As floodwaters gradually start to go down, the primary concern is on avoiding waterborne illnesses and bringing back electricity.
