Assam Elections 2026: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Hints At BJP's Victory | Exclusive
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in an exclusive interview with Republic Media Network, stated that the unusually high voter turnout in the Assam elections reflects strong pro-incumbency and a powerful assertion of identity by indigenous Assamese communities. He highlighted that while riverine immigrant Muslim areas traditionally recorded high turnout (65–95%), this time there has been an equally massive surge in participation from indigenous Assamese regions and Barak Valley, with some centres touching 95%.
Sarma emphasised that these additional votes from native areas clearly signal a favourable outcome for the BJP. He described the election as more than politics — a democratic fight for the survival, identity, and future of the Assamese people, who are pushing back through the ballot rather than violence. The CM added that the campaign remained positive, focused on development and governance, with no major tensions or MCC violations.
