Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar passed away on January 28, 2026, after the small aircraft he was traveling in crashed during landing in Baramati. The plane, carrying Pawar, three passengers, and two crew members, took off from Mumbai at 7 am for a 40-minute flight to attend a Zilla Parishad event in his home constituency. Reports indicate the aircraft encountered trouble in the final approach phase, leading to a catastrophic crash-landing. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed there were no survivors, with the plane disintegrating on impact. Incoming visuals show scattered debris across the crash site, and authorities have launched a full investigation into the cause, which remains under probe.

The loss of Ajit Pawar, a senior NCP leader and prominent figure in Maharashtra politics, has sent shockwaves across the state and the country. Pawar, 66, was returning from a public engagement when the accident occurred, and the sudden tragedy has left his family, party colleagues, and supporters in deep mourning. Emergency response teams reached the site swiftly, but the severity of the crash left no chance for rescue.
