Delhi Building Collapse: MCD Acts Late On Illegal PGs After Six Die In Satya Niketan

A five-storey hostel building in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area collapsed on 6 September 2026, killing at least six people and leaving approximately 20–25 students still trapped under the debris as rescue operations continue. The densely packed locality is filled with paying guest accommodations for students, many of which are illegal, congested in narrow lanes, and show visible cracks, with most structures above four storeys in a dilapidated and structurally unsound condition.  In a ground report, correspondent Shambhavi Srivastava highlights how the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) only began pasting notices and initiating action on adjacent buildings after the tragedy struck. Residents and locals are demanding the MCD Commissioner’s resignation, accusing the civic body of delayed response and negligence, while some nearby buildings have now been evacuated amid growing safety concerns.
