'Dragged Me Like A Dog': Kargil Veteran Attempts Suicide in Bengaluru, Wife Blames 'Police Humiliation'

A Kargil war veteran, Shivananda Reddy, is fighting for his life in a Bengaluru hospital after allegedly attempting suicide and his wife says police humiliation is to blame.

Reddy's wife, Kanthamma, alleges he was denied a meeting with Deputy CM & Revenue Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara in Chintamani on August 22, detained at a police station for hours, and humiliated in front of staff despite telling officers he was a Kargil veteran seeking a long-promised land grant. He is currently admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

More than 20 veteran families have now joined the protest, demanding the state finally act on land grants promised to war veterans nearly two decades ago.
