ISRO Chief Announces Six More Launches This Year After Historic EOS-05 Success

Following the successful launch of the GSLV-F17/EOS-05 mission from Sriharikota on September 4, 2026, ISRO Chief V Narayanan addressed the media and highlighted several key achievements. He described EOS-05 as the first Earth Observation satellite placed in geosynchronous orbit, enabling continuous monitoring of India and nearby regions. The satellite is the heaviest ever lifted by a GSLV vehicle and has an assured lifetime of seven years, with Narayanan expressing confidence it will function even longer.

Narayanan also announced that ISRO aims for six more launches in the current financial year. He provided updates on the Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme, noting that the vehicle is human-rated, thousands of tests have been completed, and the first uncrewed mission is being prepared for launch this year. Progress on the new launch pad at Kulasekarapattinam was also confirmed, with readiness expected by March next year.
