MCD Evacuates Chirag Delhi PG Amid Citywide Safety Drive, 8-Year-Old Building Flagged In Nehru Vihar

Following the fatal collapse of a Satya Niketan PG that left at least seven people dead, Delhi’s Municipal Corporation has stepped up a large-scale safety inspection covering all 12 zones of the city. In Chirag Delhi, officials ordered the evacuation of another paying-guest building after significant cracks appeared, prompting students to vacate the premises out of concern that a similar disaster could occur. Civic teams continue to survey and seal risky hostels and structures as a precautionary measure.

The campaign has extended to Nehru Vihar, focusing on a comparatively recent building that is just seven to eight years old and has remained closed for the past five years. Local residents attribute the damage to leaking underground pipelines, faulty roads and sewer systems. They voice worries about the danger posed to nearby market-goers, pedestrians and children. Questions are raised as to why authorities are intervening only in the aftermath of the recent tragedy in Satya Niketan.
