Students In Delhi Vacate PGs In Satya Niketan After Building Collapse Kills At Least Seven

Students living in Delhi’s Satya Niketan locality are hurriedly leaving their paying guest residences following the collapse of a five-storey PG building on September 6 that claimed seven lives, five of them students. Anxiety has spread quickly among the young residents, prompting many to pack up and move out while worried parents arrive in the capital over growing safety fears. Locals report a sense of despair, as tenants no longer feel secure in the crowded student neighbourhood close to Delhi University’s South Campus. In response, civic officials have labelled several neighbouring structures unsafe and directed their demolition, alongside sealing numerous risky PG facilities throughout the city. Outside the accident site, students organised calm demonstrations and candlelight gatherings to voice their sorrow and frustration at the incident, which has highlighted serious structural dangers in student lodging.
