The Great Nicobar Project: Indian Defence's New Strategic Initiative

The Indian government is spearheading a massive infrastructure project known as the Great Nicobar Development Project to turn Great Nicobar Island, the southernmost tip of the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, into an essential economic and defense hub. Due to its proximity to the Malacca Strait, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes, the island is well-positioned to compete with major transshipment hubs like Singapore and Colombo. As part of the proposal, a significant portion of the virgin island will be urbanized.
