Twenty Rebel TMC MPs Officially Break Away To Join Nationalist Citizens Party Of India
A massive political storm has hit the Trinamool Congress (TMC) as 20 rebel Members of Parliament have decided to break away from the party.
These 20 MPs met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and submitted an official letter asking to sit separately, claiming they make up more than two-thirds of the party's total strength. Led by leaders like Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Sudip Bandyopadhyay, the group has announced a merger with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India.
While rebel leaders hint at a dark future for the TMC, party leadership is fighting back hard. Abhishek Banerjee has written a letter to the Speaker demanding that the TMC be treated as a single political party and that no recognition be given to this breakaway faction.
