West Bengal's Alipurduar On Alert After GLOF In Bhutan’s Shintaphu Lake; Thousands Shifted To Safety

West Bengal’s Alipurduar district has been placed on high alert after reports of a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) at Bhutan’s Shintaphu Lake. Authorities have shifted around 5,000–6,000 people to safer shelters, deployed NDRF, SDRF and Civil Defence teams, and are in continuous touch with Bhutan.

Officials, including Suvendu Adhikari, the Alipurduar SP and a state minister, have assured that the situation remains under control in the green zone, with no major flooding reported so far and all earlier missing persons safe.
