Former kickboxer and social media influencer Andrew Tate has been released from house arrest after nine months on Friday. A Bucharest court ordered the release of the self-proclaimed alpha male who was awaiting trial on charges of human trafficking. After giving the release order, the court placed him under judicial control which is a lighter restrictive measure.

However, the court maintained that he would not be allowed to leave Romania as the authorities continue to investigate the matter, Daily Mail reported.

The Bucharest court also ordered the release of Tate’s brother Tristan Tate and two Romanian women who were arrested in the case. All the suspects will now be kept under judicial control until further investigation. “After 10 months. 3 in jail, 7 at home. After 15 million euro of asset seizures. After an indictment based on nothing,” Tate wrote on X, formally known as Twitter immediately after the news of his release came to light. “The file was passed to a Judge who has ruled it weak and circumstantial. I have been released from house arrest but must remain within Romania. Now. To the Mosque. Alhamdulillah,” he added.

A 60-day judicial custody

The Friday ruling came just days after the brothers were appealing against a court decision made last month. At that time, the court extended the house arrest for 30 days. The provocative social media influencer known for his misogynist take in life was formally charged with rape human trafficking and forming a criminal gang to exploit women in June this year. The four are now allowed to only travel within  Bucharest and Ilfov as they will stay under judicial custody for 60 days. “The court replaces the house arrest measure with that of judicial control for a period of 60 days from August 4 until October 2,” the Bucharest Court of Appeals said in a written ruling.

After spending three months in police detention in Bucharest, the Tate brothers won an appeal on March 31 to be moved to house arrest. The brothers are banned from contacting the two Romanian associates who are also charged with trafficking. The court made it clear that breaking these rules could lead to further house arrest or detention.
