Taiwan was hit by a powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake, with the epicenter located near Yilan and no immediate damage or injuries were reported.

Taipei: A powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan's northeastern coastal city of Yilan on Saturday night, with massive tremors felt across the island, including the capital Taipei. According to information, the earthquake hit the island at 11.05 pm local time, leaving people in panic and chaos. However, no tsunami threat has been issued following the earthquake. 

As per reports, the epicenter was located 32.3 km east of Yilan County Hall, with a depth of 72.8 km, according to the Central Weather Bureau. The tremor was felt strongly, with buildings shaking in Taipei, but no immediate reports of injuries or damage have been reported.

The National Fire Agency (NFA) is assessing any damage to life or property, while the fire agency has shared safety guidelines on social media, advising residents to protect themselves, stay away from hazardous objects, and remain calm. The Taipei city government has confirmed no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Notably, Taiwan is prone to earthquakes due to its location in a highly active seismic zone. The country has experienced deadly earthquakes in the past, including a 2016 quake that killed over 100 people and a 1999 quake that claimed over 2000 lives.
