Honduras: Six passengers on an aircraft have died after the plane crashed into the sea, shortly after takeoff from the Roatan Island, off the coast of Honduras. The flight, which was en route to Honduran mainland, was carrying passengers of different countries, including two minors. A rescue operation is underway but is difficult since the plane has fallen into water.

Six people have been confirmed dead after a plane attempted to take off from Roatan Island, located off the coast of Honduras, according to the island's fire chief. Wilmer Guerrero, the fire chief, told local broadcaster HCH that eight passengers may still be trapped inside the aircraft. Police chief Lisandro Muñoz explained to Noticiero Hoy Mismo that the plane crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff.

According to the police chief, “Recovery and rescue (efforts) are difficult because the plane fell into the sea.”

The aircraft, a Jetstream operated by the Honduran airline Lanhsa, was carrying 17 people, including three crew members, as confirmed by the country's transportation minister in an interview with local radio. 

However, the minister did not specify the number of fatalities.Local media reports, based on the flight manifest, reveal that among the passengers were a U.S. citizen, a French national, and two minors. The flight was en route to La Ceiba airport on the Honduran mainland.
