Paris: A shocking mass stabbing incident inside the Paris metro left 3 women critically injured. According to reports, a knife-wielding man attacked passengers on line 3 of the Paris metro, targeting women at Arts-et-Metiers, Republique, and Opera stations. As per reports, the suspect was arrested at his home in Sarcelles, and the law enforcement agencies are now investigating the motive behind the brutal attack.
The attack occurred in a short span of time between 4.15 pm and 4.45 pm, following which the emergency services team rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to a nearby hospital. The victims, who suffered minor injuries, are currently receiving treatment.
The suspect, identified through CCTV footage and mobile phone location data, was arrested in the Paris region. French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez praised the police and security agencies for their quick action in tracking down the suspect.
Amidst the festive season, the attack has questioned the security deployment in the European capitals. The attack has occurred at a time when France is already on high alert due to past violent incidents and threats targeting public places and gatherings.
The attacker, reportedly of Malian origin and born in 2000, was identified through CCTV footage and mobile phone tracking. He was arrested at his home in Sarcelles, a northern suburb of Paris.
The transport police have registered a case of attempted homicide and assault with a weapon. The police are investigating the motive behind the attacks, with terrorism reportedly ruled out as a motive. The firefighters and police teams rushed to the stations, securing the area and deploying additional security staff to reassure passengers.
France's Interior Minister Laurent Nunez had already asked officials to maintain maximum vigilance across the country due to the high terror threat level and risk of public disorder. The European capitals are on high alert, with increased security measures in place to deter attacks.
The suspect, reportedly of Malian origin and born in 2000, is being held in custody, and investigators are exploring the possibility of mental instability as a factor in the attack.
The investigation is ongoing, with police analysing evidence and recording statements from the people present at the site during the mass stabbing. The metro line has since returned to normal operations.
