Pakistan special court grants Imran Khan to talk to his sons on phone

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has received permission from the Official Secrets Act Special Court to talk to his sons over the phone till September 15. This comes after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief's multiple requests to talk to his son as well as his lawyers. He has been demanding these two things for quite a long time now.  

Notably, the PTI chief was booked under the Official Secrets Act 1923 in the cypher case after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) invoked Section 5 of the law, on August 18. The counter-terrorism wing of the FIA has reported the case against the former premier after establishing his deliberate involvement in misusing the classified document following a probe. Later, a special court was established under the Official Secrets Act which sent Imran Khan on judicial remand till August 30, later extending it to 14 days till September 13.   

Pakistan's special court allows Khan to talk to his son 

On Imran Khan's demand, one of Khan's attorneys, Sheeraz Ahmed Ranjha shared that the court had ordered the jail officials to permit telephonic conversation between the PTI chief and his sons. However, the jail officials did not grant permission, reported ARY News.  

Further, Imran Khan's lawyers have also been stopped by the police to meet him at the Attock Jail. Notably, Lawyers Sheeraz Ahmed Ranjha and Gohar Ali were scheduled to meet Khan earlier this month. Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain has issued a notice to Attock Jail Superintendent Arif Shehzad, in which they sought a report on the implementation of the court order. 

PTI chairman Khan also appealed against the jail superintendent who did not comply with its order directing arrangements for telephonic conversation with his sons, as per Pakistan-based newspaper. The Toshakhana issue became more prevalent after the Pakistan Election Commission disqualified Imran Khan for making "false statements and incorrect declaration."

The Ministry has approved holding the former Prime Minister's Cypher case hearing in Attock prison, as per the statement released by the Law Ministry. Notably, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) summoned former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana case. She has been charged with keeping a locket, chain, earrings, two rings, and a bracelet from the Toshakhana gifts. Further, the wife of Imran Khan has also been accused of keeping gold, diamonds, necklaces, bracelets, gold, diamond rings, earrings and bracelets. While accusing Bushara Bibi, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) stated that the gifts had not been submitted to the Toshakhana to calculate their prices.
