US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warns Russia's Putin of 'strong & swift sanctions'

U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said sanctions on Russia if they invaded Ukraine would be "strong and "swift."  Pelosi, speaking during a news conference while attending the annual Munich Security Conference on Saturday, said that "the U.S. and NATO are ready. So, this is not going to be something that takes a long time."

Moscow would have its access to financial markets and high-tech goods limited under Western sanctions being prepared in case Russia attacks Ukraine, a top European Union official said Saturday. The comments from Ursula von der Leyen, head of the EU's Executive Commission, came as tensions over Russia's intentions toward Ukraine intensified.

U.S. President Joe Biden said Friday he was "convinced" that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to invade the neighboring country. Pelosi said Putin should know the United States and its allies are unified in their plans for sanctions - a unity that "must-have has come as a rude shock to Vladimir Putin", U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence representative Adam Schiff added.
