Singapore touts multilaterism at General Assembly

Singapore's Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan touted the crucial role of the United Nations and multilateralism in a speech to the UN General Assembly on Saturday.

Balakrishnan said "only coordinated international action can lead us to a sustainable and inclusive and resilient recovery" from the coronavirus pandemic.

He also pledged his country's commitment to fighting climate change.

"Climate change remains a clear and present danger, and recent extreme weather events are stark reminders that we do not have time to lose," Balakrishnan told delegates.
