Tesla Attackers Could Be Sent to Infamous El Salvador Prison, Suggests Trump

President Donald Trump on Friday suggested that individuals convicted of vandalizing Tesla vehicles and facilities should serve their prison sentences in El Salvador’s notorious CECOT anti-terrorism prison.

Trump's comments come as the U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) pursues cases against individuals accused of targeting Tesla in a series of arson attacks. On Thursday, federal prosecutors charged three people with using Molotov cocktails to set fire to Tesla cars and showrooms. Officials claim the incidents were linked to the #TeslaTakedown movement, which has emerged as a backlash against Elon Musk and his leadership of the company.

The DOJ stated that those charged could face prison sentences ranging from five to twenty years if convicted.

In a Truth Social post on Friday morning, Trump expressed his support for harsh penalties against the accused vandals.

"I look forward to watching the sick terrorist thugs get 20-year jail sentences for what they are doing to Elon Musk and Tesla. Perhaps they could serve them in the prisons of El Salvador, which have become so recently famous for such lovely conditions!" Trump wrote.

Ties to U.S.-El Salvador agreement

Trump’s remarks come amid a broader partnership between the U.S. and El Salvador. The two countries recently struck a deal to deport some migrants to El Salvador, where many are being detained in the country’s CECOT anti-terrorism prison. The facility has gained international attention for its harsh conditions and strict security measures.

Trump has made Tesla’s success a key focus of his administration, frequently defending the company as its stock price and sales have declined. His latest comments signal that he views the crackdown on Tesla-related crimes as a national priority.
