Trump Agrees To Two-Week Ceasefire With Iran As 10-Point Proposal Remains On Table

In a statement on Truth Social, Trump said he had spoken with Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who requested a delay in US military action against Iran. Trump claimed the US had met and exceeded its military objectives and was close to a long-term peace agreement with Iran.

The announcement comes after Iran rejected a US proposal for a temporary ceasefire, instead presenting a 10-point plan for a permanent end to the war. Trump described Iran's proposal as a "workable basis" for negotiations.

We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated. Iran’s Media Claims ‘Victory’

Iran's First International News Network, Press TV, in a post on X, claimed victory with entirely contradictory development, saying the US accepted its 10-point plan. It said, “Supreme national security council: Iran achieved historic victory by forcing criminal US to accept its 10-point plan. US has accepted Iran's control over Strait of Hormuz, enrichment right, removal of all sanctions.”

Iran's Foreign Ministry has welcomed the ceasefire, but reiterated that it will not agree to a temporary pause in fighting. "No rational person would agree to a short-term detente without guarantees that the cycle won't be repeated," said Esmail Baghaei, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman.

Diplomatic Breakthrough Or Divergent Narratives?

A ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran has stirred both relief and confusion, with both countries presenting vastly different accounts of the deal.
