King Charles III is preparing to address the United Kingdom following Queen Elizabeth II’s death. He is expected to meet Prime Minister Liz Truss, following which, he will make a televised address to the country. 

UK High Commissioner Alex Ellis mourned the demise of Queen Elizabeth II and admired the longest serving Queen for leading an exemplary life of strength, duty, hard work and dignity.

King Charles III  and Queen consort Camilla arrived at Buckingham Palace for the first time after becoming the new monarch. He was greeted by thousands of well-wishers outside the palace. 

King Charles III and Camilla landed in London after they departed from Balmoral Castle in Scotland. They reached Buckingham Palace. He would be addressing the nation soon after. King Charles is set to meet the Accession Council tomorrow.

After the passing away of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, King Charles on Saturday will be officially proclaimed as Britain's new monarch at a meeting of the Accession Council at St James's Palace. 

As the United Kingdom mourns the demise of Queen Elizabeth II, the British forces offered 96 Gun Salute that represents each year of the Queen's life.

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II is expected to be held at Westminster Abbey in about 10 days' time, though the date is yet to be confirmed by Buckingham Palace. It is likely to be declared a bank holiday - a confirmation is soon expected by the palace and government.

As the UK mourns the passing of its longest-serving monarch Queen Elizabeth II, a string of events are scheduled for the day. 

• Today, King Charles III will travel from Balmoral Castle to London with his wife, Camilla, now Queen Consort.
• The new King is expected to hold an audience with newly-elected Prime Minister Liz Truss at Buckingham Palace
• The UK Parliament will gather at noon for MPs to pay respect to the Queen
• At midday, bells will toll in tribute to the Queen at Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, and Windsor Castle
• At 1 PM, gun salutes will be fired in Hyde Park and other places
• PM Truss and other senior ministers will attend a remembrance service at St Paul's Cathedral
• The government will confirm the period of national mourning
• The King will make his first televised address to the nation as head of state

Britain will come to a grinding halt for nearly a week to mourn its Queen, who passed away on Thursday after 73 years on the throne.

Buckingham Palace already had a plan in place for the Queen’s funeral, reportedly codenamed ‘London Bridge’ had she died in London. However, Operation Unicorn has been set in motion, since the monarch died in Scotland. 

Queen Elizabeth II will lie in state in Edinburgh and Westminster as part of the the10-day national mourning which begins on Friday. During this period, the union flags will be lowered and flown at half-mast on royal residences, government buildings, and military establishments; and books of condolence opened at British embassies across the world.

As the Queen died in Scotland, her body will lie in St Giles’ cathedral in Edinburgh for 24 hours to allow her close family to pay their respects.

As the period of mourning continues, the Queen will be moved to London where her coffin will be laid in state for three days at Westminster Hall before the state funeral at Westminster Abbey. The ceremony will be presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The monarch will finally be laid to rest at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where her late husband, Prince Philip, and both of her parents, the Queen Mother and George VI, are also buried. The day of her funeral and the day of the coronation of King Charles III will both be national holidays.

After seven decades, the United Kingdom has a new woman to call queen. Charles’ wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will be known as Queen Consort — a title that came with Queen Elizabeth II’s blessing after years of contention, dating back to the days before she even married Prince Charles.

It wasn’t always a given that the 75-year-old Camilla would take the title, even though it gives her none of the sovereign’s powers.

UK Prime Minister Liz Truss said the country is “devastated” by the death of Queen Elizabeth II, calling her “the rock on which modern Britain was built.” US President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden said in a statement that Elizabeth was “more than a monarch” and that “she defined an era.”

United Kingdom's monarch Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8, at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne. She was the world's second-longest reigning monarch. In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow”. The Queen had not been keeping well ever since she tested positive for COVID-19, in February.

The British monarchy's rules state that a new sovereign succeeds to the throne as soon as his or her predecessor dies. That means Queen Elizabeth II's eldest son, Prince Charles, became king immediately upon her death.

However, it may be months or even longer before Charles' formal coronation. 

According to Spectator Index, Brazil has declared three days of mourning over the death of Queen Elizabeth.

Ahead of the UK Queen's passing, a number of plans were set in place including Operation Unicorn. As per the plans in Operation Unicorn, which is expected to be followed since the UK Queen passed away in Scotland, her mortal remains will be taken to Holyrood Palace before being taken to St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh to lie in state.

On a train, thereafter, her remains will be taken to London. Ahead of the funeral, which is to take place after 10 days, the UK Queen's coffin will lie in state at the Palace of Westminster for three days and members of the public are invited to pay their respects during this time. 

Charles and his wife, the Queen Consort Camilla, stayed at the Balmoral Castle, where the Queen breathed her last, on Thursday. He will travel to London on Friday, where he will meet with Prime Minister Liz Truss, before making a televised address to the nation.
