Storm Ellen brings huge waves to Cornwall

The UK was braced for the battering of strong winds on Thursday as storm Ellen continues to hit the British Isles.

Gusts of up to 70mph have been predicted to strike coastal regions of the UK on Thursday and Friday with British weather forecasters the Met Office warning the adverse weather could cause travel disruption and damage to power lines.

Emergency services have issued warnings particularly in coastal areas where the strong gales, along with high spring tides, may cause large waves.

The impact of Storm Ellen already left thousands of homes and businesses without power in Ireland earlier this week.
