A senior lecturer in security studies at King's College London, Andreas Krieg, has dismissed Trump's plan to blockade the Strait of Hormuz as unrealistic. Krieg noted that Iran can sustain the situation longer than the US, the Gulf states, and the global economy. Trump lacks viable military options and will likely need to concede on key issues. 

Experts warn that a US blockade on the Strait of Hormuz could lead to higher oil prices, but implementation details are crucial. "Leaner volumes generally mean tighter markets and higher prices," says Kevin Book, managing director at ClearView Energy Partners. Iran's response and potential reprisals against Gulf producers' alternative routes could further drive up prices.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited southern Lebanon, marking his first trip to the area since the current conflict with Hezbollah began. Netanyahu stated that Israel has "changed the face of the Middle East" and that Iran and its allies are now fighting for survival. He also announced plans to expand an 8-10 km buffer zone inside Lebanon to prevent Hezbollah from launching rockets and anti-tank missiles. 

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy has warned that military vessels approaching the Strait of Hormuz will face a "firm and forceful response," as tensions escalate with the US. The warning comes after President Donald Trump announced a blockade on the critical waterway, citing Iran's refusal to agree to US terms. The US-Iran talks in Pakistan ended without a deal, leaving the fragile ceasefire and global oil supplies uncertain.

The UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL, reports Israeli tanks rammed into their vehicles twice on Sunday, damaging equipment and blocking access to their positions. The incident occurred in Bayada, where Israeli soldiers were obstructing a road used by peacekeepers. The reported incident is the latest in a string of attacks on UN personnel and facilities since the Israel-Hezbollah conflict escalated on March 2, claiming the lives of three peacekeepers.

Saudi Arabia has summoned the Iraqi ambassador to express strong protest over the ongoing drone attacks launched from Iraqi territory targeting the kingdom and neighboring Gulf states. The Saudi Foreign Ministry delivered a formal "protest note" to the ambassador, asserting Iraq's responsibility to address these threats and prevent future attacks. 

The move follows recent tensions in the region, with Iran-backed Iraqi militias claiming responsibility for dozens of attacks on US bases and facilities in solidarity with Tehran. Although the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iran-backed militias, announced a two-week halt to operations after the US-Iran ceasefire, it is unclear if the drone attacks are still ongoing. 

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed readiness to reach a "balanced and fair" agreement to ensure lasting regional peace during a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Pezeshkian asserted Iran's national interests are non-negotiable and criticised the US for using Gulf countries as bases to strike Iran.

He also underlined Iran's willingness to cooperate with Gulf countries to achieve regional security without external interference. The call comes after recent talks between Iran and the US in Pakistan failed to yield an agreement, with both sides blaming each other for the stalemate. 

Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty is stressing the need for dialogue and peaceful solutions to settle disputes between the US and Iran. He recently spoke with US envoy Steve Witkoff, asserting the importance of adhering to diplomatic paths.

Abdelatty also held talks with Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and they agreed to continue efforts to de-escalate tensions and bridge gaps between Washington and Tehran. Egypt, Pakistan, and Turkey have been actively mediating between the two nations since the conflict began. 

Israel's Ministry of Finance has released its initial estimate of the cost of the Iran war, and the numbers are eye-opening. The country has spent NIS 22 billion ($7.25 billion) on defence and military costs, including equipment and mobilising over 100,000 reserve soldiers. Additionally, NIS 12 billion ($4 billion) has been allocated for damages incurred by businesses and individuals due to missiles and other war-related losses.

Furthermore, the ministry noted that some costs, including economic losses from the war's 40-day closure of airports and businesses, will only become apparent in the future. To put this into perspective, Israel spent an estimated NIS 14 billion ($4.7 billion) per month on its military during the height of the Gaza war, more than double its pre-October 2023 monthly budget. The financial toll of this war is massive, and it is unclear how Israel will recover from these losses.
