Times Square crystal ball tested ahead of NYE

Although the New Year's Eve festivities will features concerts and live performances, just a limited group of first responders have been invited to watch in person.

The iconic crystal ball that will ring in the new year in New York's Times Square was given a final test run on Wednesday ahead of the big night.

The ball will rise at the stroke of midnight from atop the One Times Square building.

Normally a draw for tens of thousands in the heart of Manhattan, this year's celebration has been scaled down to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions.

Revelers can still watch from home on television and online.

Although the New Year's Eve festivities will features concerts and live performances, just a limited group of first responders have been invited to watch in person.
