From US to Thailand, foreign nationals killed, abducted and missing in Hamas attack on Israel

The ripple effect of the Israel-Hamas conflict was felt around the world after several countries reported that their nationals were killed due to the ongoing escalation. Not only this, reports are emerging that multiple foreigners were abducted by the Hamas militants after they unleashed a surprise attack against Israel, bombarding the southern towns of the Jewish country on October 7.
These unsuspected attack by Hamas received condemnation from around the world with the US and the UK calling it an “act of terror”. While the total death toll in the ongoing crisis surpassed the 1,200 figure, several countries have started evacuating their nationals citing safety concerns. Here’s a look at the countries that have reported the deaths of their nationals in the Israel-Hamas clashes.
Nepal
On Monday, Nepal confirmed that at least 10 of its nationals were killed in Israel after Hamas unleashed a lethal attack against Israeli forces. Confirming the death toll, the Nepalese Foreign Ministry stated that four of its nationals were wounded in the attack. The confirmation came a day after Nepal openly condemned the Hamas attacks. “The Government of Nepal strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Israel today that caused loss of precious human lives and injured many more. At this critical hour, we convey our solidarity with the Government of Israel,” the Nepalese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday. “The government of Nepal extends heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the people and government of Israel as well as the victims of this cruel attack and their families. We wish for speedy recovery of the injured,” the ministry added.
Thailand
On Sunday, the Foreign Ministry of Thailand informed that 12 nationals were killed and 11 were abducted amid the raging clashes. "We are working to help all Thai citizens in Israel," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kanchana Patarachoke told local reporters, confirming the death toll, The Times of Israel reported. Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin urged the militant group to release the nationals insisting that they are innocent. Thai students are innocent and have nothing to do with any conflict,” Thavisin said.
US
Condemning the gruesome Hamas attacks, the White House on Monday confirmed that 9 US citizens died in the ongoing clashes. "We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and to the families of all those affected and wish those injured a speedy recovery. We continue to monitor the situation closely and remain in touch with our Israeli partners, particularly the local authorities,” the White House said in a statement, as per the reports by CNN. Meanwhile, the State Department stated that an undetermined number of American citizens remain missing and unaccounted for. It is not clear whether the missing had been taken hostage, were killed or are in hiding. The State Department is in touch with families “and providing all appropriate consular assistance,” spokesman Matthew Miller said.
UK
A source close to Number 10 told local reporters that over 10 British nationals are feared dead or missing in Israel. Earlier today, UK officials confirmed the death of 20-year-old, Nathanel Young. The young British national was serving the Israel Defense Forces and was killed on the Gaza border on Saturday. Other than the aforementioned countries, France and Cambodia also reported the deaths of their foreign nationals
