The match between the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals has been called off due to security reasons, it has been learnt. The decision came after India thwarted multiple attacks from Pakistan in several areas.
However, BCCI issued an official statement confirming the development. As per ESPN Cricinfo, the statement read, “The Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match was forced to be abandoned due to a significant technical failure at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. Due to a power outage in the area, one of the light towers at the HPCA Stadium malfunctioned. BCCI regrets the inconvenience caused to the in-stadium attendees.”
Earlier, the match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians has been shifted to Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium which was supposed to take place in Dharamsala on May 11.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has confirmed they are arranging a special train from Una to evacuate players and other from Dharamsala. The development came in the aftermath of the rising tension between India and Pakistan. He also said BCCI will take a call on the postponement of IPL 2025.
As quoted by the Times of India he said, “We are organising a special train from Una which is not far from Dharamsala to bring everybody home safely. As of now the match has been called off and the stadium has been evacuated. We will take a call on the tournament's future depending on the situation tomorrow. As of now, players' safety is utmost important."
No official confirmation regarding the IPL's postponement has arrived. On Friday, Lucknow Super Giants will take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and it remains to be seen whether the match goes ahead.
