Inspector General Ajay Kumar Yadav of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has reassured the public that the current situation in the Kashmir Valley is peaceful. Expressing confidence that the situation would further improve in the coming times, Yadav emphasized the excellent state of affairs in Srinagar and Kashmir, highlighting that the overall situation is under control. However, he asserted that the CRPF is prepared to intensify anti-terror operations if the need arises to maintain the region's security.
The security forces achieved a significant breakthrough as five terrorists associated with the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba were neutralized in an encounter in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on November 17 this year. South Kashmir DIG Rayees reported that the encounter unfolded after establishing contact with the terrorists who were hiding in residential houses. The terrorists were identified as Sameer Ahmed Sheikh, Danish Thokar, Ubaid Patr, Hanzara Shah, and Yasif Bhatt. This successful operation reflects the ongoing efforts to counter terrorism in the region.
SIA raids uncover terror funding network in South Kashmir
Recently, the State Investigation Agency (SIA), the anti-terror arm of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, conducted raids at five locations in Anantnag and Kulgam districts as part of an investigation into a terror funding case (FIR 311/2023). The case, registered on November 19, 2023, involves multiple sections of the UA(P)A and IPC.
SIA officials revealed that the raids targeted individuals, including Zaffar Hussain Bhat and Khursheed Kashmiri, associated with Hizbul Mujahideen. The investigation uncovered a detailed terror-funding plan, highlighting the organized financial support for active terrorists and their families. The individuals, declared proclaimed offenders, have Red Notices of Interpol issued against them in several terror funding cases.
The revelations from the SIA raids underscore the multifaceted approach required to counter terrorism, not only through on-ground operations but also by dismantling the financial networks that sustain these activities. The detailed plan uncovered by the SIA indicates the sophistication of the terror funding mechanisms employed by proscribed outfits in the region.
CRPF IG affirms peaceful environment but stresses preparedness
Despite the prevailing peace, Inspector General Yadav mentioned the CRPF's commitment to adopting necessary strategies for public association and youth support. He assured that all essential measures are being implemented to maintain peace in the region. Responding to a question about CRPF's women personnel in the Valley, Yadav acknowledged their crucial role in airport security duties and cordon search operations.
The presence of women personnel in critical operations not only demonstrates gender inclusivity but also highlights the diverse roles undertaken by the CRPF in maintaining security. These women personnel actively contribute to the force's mission, showcasing their dedication and capability in challenging situations.
While the current situation in the Kashmir Valley is peaceful, the security forces remain on high alert, ready to respond to any emerging threats. The successful encounter and the revelations from the SIA raids underscore the ongoing efforts to ensure the region's security. The CRPF's proactive measures, including engagement with the public and strategic preparedness, are integral to maintaining stability in the Kashmir Valley.
